I was able to attend our screening at the Santa Cruz film festival, and had a blast!
The projection was superb, and the crowd had a great reaction to our film.
After the screening at least five people came up to me at different times and told me how
moved they were by Finding Jacob. There's nothing more rewarding for a filmmaker
than a stranger approaching you and gushing over your film. My Hat is off to Julian Soler,
the program director, and his wonderful group of festival organizers for putting together
a great program. This time I was able to take some pictures.

We've been accepted to another film festival, this time it's in Sarasota Florida. Go to
the screenings page and check it out, and if you live in Florida, come out to support the
film. The programmer, Patrick Nagle, had some complimentary things to say about us, which
came as a surprise. Can't wait to attend. ;)

Well, Our first screening was a success. I flew to Taos New Mexico and attended the Taos
Shortz Film Festival. So this is how my weekend went.
I didn't sleep Friday night. I was up all night trying to get the festival a compatible copy
of the movie. When that didn't work, I ended up spending the rest of the night burning a
few versions of the film, thinking I should have a lot of options in order to make one of
them work when I got there. The flight was a daze, but when I finally arrived, I received a
phone call, telling me they got the copy they had to work, and that everything was good
in the world again. With the crisis diverted, I was able to take a relaxing two-hour drive
from Albuquerque into Taos. It was terrific scenery, and I remembered how much I enjoy
this area. When I arrived, I dumped my stuff in the room, and went strait to the festival.
We screened the program, and I sat at the front of the theater so I could turn and see how
people were reacting. It was a great crowd, and they seemed to really like the film. When
the shorts program was finished, there was a Q+A where I explained where I got the idea,
and answered a few quick questions. Then, when I went outside, it was sunny and
snowing! What a great few hours. Then I got to sit back and watch the rest of the program
which was fun. The next day I woke to a snow shower and two inches of fresh snow
on the ground, which was completely unexpected, but so beautiful. We ended up bringing home a
little love too, winning the Honorable Mention People's Choice Award. Anna Cosentine
put together a lovely shorts program. Good people, good times.

Terry and I picked up the master tapes yesterday. It was a great feeling to have finished
the film, but now the hard work starts. It's amazing how much luck and faith goes into
launching a film into the festival circuit. We feel very well positioned, and are very
happy with how the film turned out. Now we move our focus to having the best materials
to represent the film. Leslie Wong designed a great dvd cover for us, which we're very
happy about. We're really looking forward to getting to see the film with an audience.
Bring on the new year!

We have officially locked picture, and our post sound guy Jeff Jones has begun to work on
the sound and music for the film. I'm very happy with the progress we are making, and
every little thing we do is making the film stronger, and more dramatic. As with any
project, we have run into a few technical issues as a result of trying to combine new
technology (the red camera), and older technology (our workflow). At the end of the day
these things always happen, so as long as you keep a positive attitude, you can find a way
to make everything work out for the best. The good thing about small hurdles is that once
you have jumped them, you get to learn from these obstacles, and become a better filmmaker.

Post production. Ok, so we are really close to final cut, having wearied the storm of
editing. Dave, our editor, had to survive multiple setbacks over the last
few months. I won't go into it, but suffice it to say it was pretty extreme. He and his
wife are fairly settled now, and we have finally gotten the film to a place where everyone
likes it, so that's awesome.
Terry and I have been meeting to work on our festival strategy, and marketing for the film,
and feel we have a great game plan. At the moment we are putting together the website and
other social networking links to try to garner the best reception we can muster.
I'd like to talk a little bit about the strange coincidences that have been happening
around the film. Last night, Terry, the producer, and I met to talk about the website, and
decided to go grab a beer afterwards at Tom Bergins. Who do we run into, but Jernard, our
lead who played Jacob in our film. Out of all the millions of people in LA, that's got to
be statistically next to impossible. These odd things have been happening since the films
inception. I don't know what power or energy is behind the project, but I'm in awe of how
blatant these things are.

Production has ended, and I can't say enough about how proud I am of everyone who worked on
this film. There was something special about how well we all came together. As our 1st AC
Tony Magaletta put it, "I was blown away with the way we all gelled together in such a
short time... 6 hours and it was like our crew had worked together on a season of
Television!." When you have e-mail blast going around between the cast and crew with
words like magical, and awesome, used to describe it, it is clear that everyone felt
this was something special. I genuinely feel responsible to all of them to make this
film representative of the experience we had making it. It was one of the most rewarding
adventures in my life, and can't wait till we get everyone together again
for the next project.
