David Starks is an award-winning director of photography from Virginia. He received his film degree from Valencia College in 2000. He worked as a camera assistant for two years in Florida before making the move to Los Angeles. There he worked as an electrician, best boy, and gaffer, for companies such as Lifetime, Sci-fi Channel, Discovery Channel, and many others. During that time, he shot several short films that received recognition in many festivals. After four years he became a cinematographer full time. Bitten by the cinematography bug, he hasn't stopped shooting since.
In 2007, he earned The Best Cinematography Award for the short film "Darts," directed by Toni West. He just completed work on a feature, "Outrage," starring Michael Madsen, Natasha Lyonne, and Michael Berryman, which will be released in the fall of 2008. He also recently shot a commercial for Aeria games and a music video by the esteemed R&B artist Corylavel that is airing on various networks.
David's intuitive eye for composition and unique lighting skills keep him busy working. He loves to share his passion for cinema by creating visual images for people to see. Some people light to shoot, David shoots to light. This can all be seen by the images he paints with the camera.
